Partial and Full Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Full dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, and partial dentures are used when some of the original teeth remain. If you have ill-fitting dentures you should seek the care of a Prosthodontist, such as Dr. Desai – a dental specialist with three additional years of training beyond dental school who is an expert in fabricating dentures, among other esthetic and restorative procedures.

A prosthodontist will need to see you several times over the period of several weeks to fit you for dentures. Highly accurate moulds and measurements are taken to fabricate your custom dentures. Several additional appointments will be necessary to ensure the proper shape, color and fit. At your final appointment, your dentist will adjust and place your completed denture.

It is important that a prosthodontist evaluate your dentures on a regular basis because your bone and gums may shrink over time. Once your teeth are removed, the changes to your jawbones are constant and ongoing. The fit of your dentures will change with time, and they will need to be relined and/or remade periodically to accommodate these changes.

Proper cleaning of your dentures and good oral hygiene and regular dental visits will prolong the life of your dentures.
